An Obsidian vault imports as Markdown, one list per note.
Before you start
A zip of your vault, or the Markdown files. Import in Settings Advanced Obsidian.
What comes across
Note files as lists, Markdown structure as thing types, embedded images as photo things, and frontmatter where it maps onto something NewTwos has.
Wikilinks are recognised and converted where a matching list exists.
Photos
Images embedded in a note come across as photo things, whether they are written as ![[shot.png]] or as . Alt text stays on the thing as a caption. A bare file name does not, since a thing captioned shot.png reads as noise.
Import the vault as a zip. The image files live beside your notes rather than inside them, so a zip is the only form that carries both. Dropping loose .md files brings the text and leaves the images behind, because there is nowhere for the import to find them.
An import carries up to 100 images and skips any single image over 8MB. The preview counts them before you approve.
Is this a good idea?
Worth being honest. If your vault is a linked knowledge base that depends on plugins and queries, NewTwos is not a replacement and the import will disappoint.
If your vault is mostly notes and lists that happen to live in Obsidian, it translates well and you gain days, carry-over and reminders.
Tips
- Import a folder, not the vault, and judge from that.
- Keep the vault. There is no reason to delete it, and an import is not a migration you have to commit to.
