Auto-tagging by source

iPhoneiPadAndroidWebMacWindowsLinuxWatchUpdated 2026-08-18

Things arriving from an integration can be tagged with where they came from.

Why you'd care

Once you have three or four capture routes running, Today becomes a mix of your own writing and everything the integrations pushed in. Auto-tagging separates them without you doing anything.

It is the setting that makes running several integrations pleasant rather than noisy.

The 60-second version

Turn on Settings Advanced Automatically tag things from integrations. Things arriving from Siri, email, text, Slack, the browser and the rest carry a tag naming the source.

Going further

It pairs with dynamic lists. A list filtered to the email tag is an inbox of forwarded material that maintains itself. See dynamic lists.

It makes a weekly clean-up trivial. Filter by source tag, select all, move or delete in one pass. See select many things at once.

Tags are a Plus feature, so this is only useful if you have them. Plus

A default list is the alternative. Rather than tagging, you can send all integration captures to one list. Tagging is better if you use several routes, since it distinguishes between them. See where new things go.

Tips

  • Turn it on before setting up your second integration, not after. Retroactive tagging is not a thing.
  • Review by tag once a week. It takes two minutes and stops integrations silently filling your days.
