Text size and spacing

One control scales the type and the spacing throughout the app.

Why you'd care

This is the setting most worth adjusting and the one people are most reluctant to touch. You read your own lists every day, and a scale that suits you compounds.

It matters in both directions: larger for comfort, smaller to fit more of a long list on screen.

The 60-second version

Open Settings Appearance & Accessibility Text size and spacing and adjust. It applies immediately everywhere.

Going further

It scales spacing too, not only type. That is why it stays balanced rather than becoming cramped large text, and it is why it is one control rather than two.

Compact mode is related. Reducing spacing without shrinking type gets more onto a screen while keeping it readable.

It is per device. A comfortable scale on a phone is not the same as on a large monitor, and the setting respects that.

Full width is separate. On a wide screen, whether content stretches or stays in a column is Settings Appearance & Accessibility Full width. A readable column usually beats full width on a large display.

Tips

  • Try one step larger for a week. Most people are running smaller than is comfortable because they set it once on a smaller phone.
  • If lists feel long, try smaller type before archiving things. It is often a density problem rather than a volume one.
