Left-handed mode and haptics
Small physical settings that matter more than they sound on a phone you hold all day.
Left-handed mode
Settings Appearance & Accessibility Left-handed mode moves the primary controls to the side your thumb is actually on.
If you are left-handed this is the first setting to change. The default puts the most-used controls where a right thumb reaches, which makes every action slightly awkward otherwise.
Haptics
Vibration feedback on completing, selecting and swiping. It is the fastest confirmation available, because you feel it before you see it.
Turn it off if you find it noisy, or if battery matters more than feedback.
Checkbox shape
Settings Appearance & Accessibility Circle checkboxes switches between round and square checkboxes.
Purely aesthetic, but it is the shape you look at more than any other in the app.
Going further
These pair with swipe actions. If you have rebound swipes, left-handed mode changes which one is comfortable. See custom swipe actions.
Reach beats speed on a phone. A slightly slower action you can do one-handed beats a faster one that needs both hands.
Settings that change this
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Left-handed mode moves controls to the other side.
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Circle checkboxes round or square checkboxes.
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Expand bar shows more actions in the bar at once.
Tips
- If you are left-handed and have never changed this, do it now. It is the highest-value thirty seconds in settings.
- Keep haptics on for completion even if you turn the rest off. It is the one that confirms something happened.
