Plan a trip
One list for the trip, with the parts as sublists.
The scenario
A trip generates four different kinds of thing: what to book, what to pack, where to go, and what to remember. Putting them in one flat list makes all four harder to read.
Set it up once
- 1
Make a list for the trip
Named after the place and the month, so it is searchable later.
- 2
Make sublists for the parts
Packing, bookings, places, notes. Each stays one line on the parent list. See sublists.
- 3
Set reminders on the bookings
With real lead times. A flight reminder at the departure time is useless. See alerts and alarms.
- 4
Add locations to the places
So they appear on the map when you are there. See map.
The rhythm
Before: add to the sublists as things occur to you. During: check off packing, add photos and notes to the trip list. After: leave it alone.
Make it yours
- Save the packing sublist as a template, and every future trip starts with it. This is the single biggest win here. See templates.
- Share the list if you are travelling with someone. See collaborate on a list.
- Time until on the departure reminder gives you a live countdown. See thing info and time until.
What this looks like after a month
The trip is over and the list is a record of it, with the photos and notes still attached. Archive it rather than deleting it. See archive.
The packing template is the part that pays off, permanently, on every trip afterwards.
