Map
Things with a place attached, shown on a map.
Map view is free.
Why you'd care
Place is a memory trigger that words are not. "The restaurant near the park" is how people actually remember things, and a map is the only view that indexes on it.
What appears
Things that carry a location: places you saved, location reminders, and things written with a place attached.
Tapping a pin opens a place sheet with what you wrote there.
Privacy
This is worth being clear about.
- Location is opt-in. Nothing is placed on the map unless a thing has a location, and that requires you to attach one or to grant location permission.
- Precise location is separate. Settings Advanced Precise location controls whether NewTwos receives exact or approximate coordinates. Approximate is fine for the map and too coarse for geofences.
- The world map is a different feature. Contributing to a shared public map is separate and opt-in, under Settings Advanced World Map.
Settings that change this
- Settings Advanced World Map controls contributing to the public map.
- Settings Advanced Precise location sets location accuracy.
- Settings Advanced Default map app chooses which app opens for directions.
Tips
- Attach a place to travel notes and restaurant things. Those are the ones you will look for geographically.
- If you do not want location used at all, denying the system permission is the complete answer.
