To-dos, Stars and Bookmarks

Three views that collect flagged material, each gathering a different thing.

What each one holds

ViewGathersFlag
To-dosEvery to-do, from every list and dayBeing a to-do
StarsEvery starred thing⌘⇧S
BookmarksEvery pinned list⌘⌥B

The distinction that matters: stars are for things, bookmarks are for lists. They are separate collections and neither includes the other.

Why they are separate

Because they answer different questions. To-dos is "what is outstanding". Stars is "what did I mark as worth finding again". Bookmarks is "which lists do I actually open".

Merging them would produce one long list where nothing means anything.

Going further

To-dos is not a task manager. It has no projects or priorities. For structure, use the Things view with filters instead. See the Things view and its filters.

Stars are one level. There is no priority scale, deliberately. A star means "find this again".

Bookmarks can be ordered and coloured. See bookmarks.

Tips

  • If Stars has hundreds of entries it has stopped being a signal. Unstar in batches from this view.
  • To-dos is a good weekly review surface and a bad daily one. Day to day, Today already shows what matters.
