The Tags view
Every tag you use, with how often you use it.
Why you'd care
The counts are the interesting part. They are an honest picture of what you actually write about, which is usually not what you think you write about.
It is also the fastest way to spot the problem tags: near-duplicates, and tags used twice a year that should not exist.
Going further
Counts drive the picker order. With ordering set to most-used, this view and the tag picker agree, so your common tags are always first. See Settings Lists & <i>Things</i> Tag order.
Counts can be reset. Settings Lists & <i>Things</i> Reset tag counts starts them over, which is useful after a cleanup so old habits stop influencing the order.
Tapping a tag shows the lists it appears in, matching how searching #tag behaves. A tag is a topic, and topics are more useful grouped than as a flat pile. See search.
Tags in the side menu. Settings Lists & <i>Things</i> Show tags in side menu puts your tags in the navigation, which is worth it only if you have a handful.
Settings that change this
- Settings Lists & <i>Things</i> Tag order orders tags by use, count or alphabetically.
- Settings Lists & <i>Things</i> Reset tag counts clears usage counts.
- Settings Lists & <i>Things</i> Show tags in side menu shows tags in the side menu.
Tips
- Review this view every few months. Merging two near-duplicate tags takes a minute and pays off for years.
- Any tag used fewer than three times is probably not earning itself.
