When something's wrong
An import did not work
Most import problems are expectation problems, and a few are genuine failures.
Check first: is it a limitation?
Every import loses something, and each source page says exactly what. Folder structures, custom fields, attachments and app-specific formatting frequently do not come across. See importing: what comes across.
If what is missing is on that list, the import worked as designed.
Cause and fix
Nothing imported. Usually the wrong file format or an export that was not finished. Re-export from the source app and check the file is not empty.
Only some of it imported. Very large files can be worth splitting. Import in parts rather than retrying the whole thing.
Formatting is wrong. Rich formatting is simplified on the way in. The text is intact even where the styling is not.
Everything landed in one list. Some sources have no structure to preserve, so it all arrives together. Select and move in bulk. See select many things at once.
Duplicates after retrying. Importing twice imports twice. Delete the first attempt before retrying rather than after.
Retrying safely
- 1
Export first
Take an export of your existing NewTwos data before a large import. See export your things.
- 2
Import into a fresh list
Keeping an import separate makes it trivial to delete and start over.
- 3
Check a sample before importing the rest
Import a small file first and confirm it looks right.
What to send support
The source app, the file format, roughly how large, what arrived versus what you expected, and whether a smaller sample worked.
