Your day
Dressing up a day
Days can carry an emoji, a background and a cover photo, either one at a time or as a default for all of them.
Why you'd care
Mostly it makes the page yours, which matters more than it sounds for something you open every day. It is also practical: a distinctive background makes days recognisable while scrolling back through days view.
The 60-second version
Open a day, open its options, and set an emoji, a background or a cover photo. That change applies to that day only.
Step by step
Emojis
Today, past days and future days can each carry their own default emoji, so you can tell at a glance which kind of day you are looking at. Set them in Settings Appearance & Accessibility Default Day Emojis.
Backgrounds and covers
A background is the surface behind your things. A cover photo sits at the top of the page. Both accept a colour, a gradient, or a photo.
Setting a default for every day, rather than one at a time, is a Plus feature: Settings Appearance & Accessibility Default Today background and Settings Appearance & Accessibility Default day cover photo. Plus
Going further
Scope matters. A default can apply to today only, or to every day. Applying to every day is the one that makes your history look consistent when you scroll back.
Text colour follows. A dark photo behind light text is unreadable, so the text colour can be set alongside the background rather than being fixed.
Settings that change this
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Default Day Emojis sets the emoji for today, past and future days.
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Default Today background sets the background for days. Plus
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Default day cover photo sets the cover photo. Plus
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Wallpaper changes the app surface behind everything.
Tips
- Pick something quiet. A background you look at every day should be closer to wallpaper than to a poster.
- Cover photos are more useful on lists than on days, because lists benefit more from being recognisable.
