Tomorrow and Yesterday

Tomorrow and Yesterday are ordinary days, one step either side of Today.

Why you'd care

Tomorrow is the lightest planning tool in the product. There is no project to create and no due date to set. You open it and write, and those things are waiting when the day arrives.

Yesterday is where you go when you know you wrote something recently but not exactly what.

The 60-second version

Swipe left or right on the page, or tap a day in the week bar.

Press ⌘⇧→ and ⌘⇧← to step a day at a time.

Moving a thing between them

The two shortcuts worth learning are ⌘⇧O and ⌘⇧P, because they skip the list picker entirely. They work on a selection too, so clearing the end of a day is one action rather than ten. See select many things at once.

Going further

Planning tomorrow beats planning today. Writing three things onto Tomorrow at the end of a day is the closest NewTwos has to a planning ritual, and it takes about twenty seconds. In the morning they are simply there.

Yesterday is a search shortcut. When you half remember something from "the other day", stepping back two or three days is usually faster than searching, because you recognise it on sight.

You are not limited to one step. Any day, past or future, can be opened and written into directly. Tomorrow is not special, it is just the one you reach for most.

Tips

  • If a thing has moved to Tomorrow more than twice, it is not a tomorrow thing. Put it on a list.
  • Writing into a future day is often better than setting a reminder. A reminder interrupts, a future day waits.

If it's not working

Yesterday looks empty but I wrote things. Check the date at the top. Anything written after midnight landed on the new day.

Things I put on Tomorrow arrived on the wrong day. Almost always a timezone shift while travelling. Open thing info with ⌘⇧I to see when it was created.
