Your day
Blank days and updated lists
Two small settings that decide how tidy your day history stays over time.
Why you'd care
After a few months of daily use, two kinds of clutter accumulate: days you opened but never wrote on, and lists surfacing on days where you do not want them. Both are one setting each, and neither is obvious.
Clean up blank past days
A day gets created when you open it, so browsing around leaves empty days behind. Over a year that is a lot of nothing.
Settings Lists & Things Clean up blank past days removes past days that ended up with no things on them. It only touches genuinely empty days in the past, and never today or the future.
Recently updated lists on days
Days can show the lists you touched that day, underneath your things. It gives a day a fuller sense of what you were working on, at the cost of a longer page.
It is off by default, which is the right default for most people. Turn it on in Settings Appearance & Accessibility Show updated lists on days.
Settings that change this
- Settings Lists & Things Clean up blank past days removes empty past days.
- Settings Appearance & Accessibility Show updated lists on days shows lists you edited on the day.
Tips
- Turn on blank-day cleanup once and forget it. There is no downside, since a day with no things on it holds nothing.
- If your days feel long, updated lists is usually the setting responsible.
If it's not working
A day I wrote on disappeared. Cleanup only removes days with no things. If a day vanished with content, look in trash rather than assuming cleanup took it.
My days are suddenly much longer. Updated lists is on.
