Your day
Today
Today is the date-titled list NewTwos makes for you every day, and the place most writing lands.
Why you'd care
Today is the answer to "where do I put this". You never create it, name it, or file it, so there is never a moment between having a thought and writing it down.
It is also where NewTwos does its own work. Unfinished to-dos arrive here on their own, reminders for the day show up here, and a year from now this page comes back to you as a memory.
The 60-second version
- 1
Open Today
It is the default landing view. If you have wandered off, open Today or press ⌘⇧␣.
- 2
Write some*thing*
Type in the capture bar and press Enter. It lands at the bottom of Today.
- 3
Make it a to-do
Press ⌘D on a thing to check it off, or change its type to get a checkbox. See thing types.
- 4
Move on
Anything you do not finish shows up tomorrow by itself.
What is on the page
A day is an ordinary list with a few extras stacked on top of it.
| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
| The date title | The list's name. It is the date, and you cannot rename it. |
| The week bar | Seven days across the top. Tap one to jump, or drag a thing onto one to move it there. |
| Today's prompt | An optional writing question, if you have prompts turned on. |
| On this day | What you wrote on this date in previous years. |
| Your things | Everything you wrote, in the order you wrote it, unless you sorted it. |
| Reminders | Anything due today, shown in place. |
Everything else a list can do, a day can do too. You can reorder it, add photos, share it, change its background, and search it.
Getting around
iPhone and Android
Swipe left and right on the page to move a day at a time. Tap a day in the week bar to jump straight to it. Pull down to get back to Today from anywhere.
Web, Mac, Windows, and Linux
Press ⌘⇧← and ⌘⇧→ to step through days. ⌘⇧␣ jumps back to wherever you have set the app to open.
Going further
Write into a day that is not today. Open any past or future day and write in it directly. This is the simplest way to plan a week: open Tomorrow, put three things on it, and forget about them until they arrive.
Drag onto the week bar. Grab a thing and drop it on a day in the week bar to move it there. It is faster than opening the move picker when the destination is within a week.
Let the day carry itself. The habit that makes this work is not planning. It is writing everything onto Today as it occurs to you and checking off what you finish. Carry-over does the rest.
Tips
- Today is a fine place for notes, not just to-dos. Most people's best use of NewTwos is a running log of the day with a few checkboxes in it.
- If Today is getting long by mid-afternoon, that is normal. It is a notebook page, not a plan you failed.
- Give days a default background or cover photo if you like the page to feel like yours. It is under Appearance.
- Yesterday is one swipe or one shortcut away, and it is usually the fastest way to find something you wrote recently.
If it's not working
Today is empty and I know I wrote something. Check the date at the top. If you wrote it after midnight, it went onto the new day. Search is the fastest way to confirm: press ⌘/.
Something I wrote from Siri or email is not here. Integrations land on Today unless you set a default list. Check Settings Appearance & Accessibility Default add to list.
The wrong day opens when I launch the app. That is the start-on setting, not a bug. Change it in Settings Appearance & Accessibility Start on.
