Block, silence, stay private
Everything for controlling other people's access to you, from mildest to strongest.
The controls
| Control | Effect |
|---|---|
| Silence a list | Stop notifications from one shared list, keep the list |
| Silence a person | Stop hearing from them, without blocking |
| Block | They cannot follow, see or interact with you |
| Report | Flags an account or comment for review |
| Leave a list | Remove yourself from someone else's shared list |
| Turn the public side off | You do not appear at all |
The strongest option
Settings Advanced Feed removes you from the public side entirely: no profile, no discoverability, no feed. Your own things are unaffected, and collaboration on lists you were invited to still works.
This is the right setting for anyone who wants a private notebook and none of the social layer. It is not a lesser mode.
Going further
Nothing is public by default. Every public surface requires a deliberate action. If you have never published anything, there is nothing to lock down.
Blocking is not silent to them in the way that unfollowing is. They will notice they cannot see you.
Leaving a shared list is always available. You are never stuck in someone else's list.
Settings that change this
- Settings Advanced Feed removes you from the public side.
- Settings Notifications Profile activities and Settings Notifications List activities control notifications.
Tips
- Silence before blocking. Most annoyances are notification volume rather than a person.
- If you are only here to write things down, turn the public side off on day one and forget it exists.
