Comments and likes
Published lists and things can carry likes and comments.
Why you'd care
If you publish, this is how people respond. If you do not publish, none of it applies to you.
What you control
- Deleting comments on anything of yours
- Reporting a comment that should not be there
- Whether a comment is public at all
- Not publishing, which removes the whole surface
Going further
Comments follow the published thing. Unpublishing takes the comment surface with it.
Photos can be attached to a comment, which is useful on a recipe or a place and worth knowing before you publish something to a wide audience.
Likes are just a count. There is no ranking or algorithm attached, and nothing is promoted because of them.
Settings that change this
- Settings Notifications Profile activities controls notifications about likes and comments.
- Settings Advanced Feed turns the public side off entirely.
Tips
- If you publish something widely, check back once. Most comments are useful and the occasional one is not.
- Turning off activity notifications while leaving comments on is a reasonable middle ground.
