Lists
Routines
A list can uncheck itself every day, so the same checklist is ready again tomorrow.
Resetting lists daily is part of NewTwos Plus. Plus
Why you'd care
Habits are the one case where carry-over is wrong. You do not want yesterday's unfinished "stretch for ten minutes" following you around, and you do not want to retype the list every morning. A routine solves both: the same list, freshly unchecked.
The 60-second version
Make a list of the things you do daily, and turn on its daily reset. Every day it starts unchecked.
Going further
It unchecks, it does not delete. The things stay. Only their completion state is cleared, so the list is stable and only its state cycles.
Routine or carry-over? Carry-over is for work that must eventually get done. A routine is for things that recur whether or not you did them yesterday. Missing a routine day should leave no trace, and it does not. See carry-over.
Routine or template? A template creates a new list each time. A routine reuses one. For anything daily, a routine is far less clutter. See templates.
Tips
- Keep it to five things. A twenty-item morning routine is a list you will start ignoring within a week.
- Put the routine list in your nav bar or bookmarks. A routine you have to go looking for is not a routine.
