Streaks

iPhoneiPadAndroidWebMacWindowsLinuxWatchUpdated 2026-08-18

Your streak is the number of consecutive days you wrote something down.

Why you'd care

Streaks work because they make the habit visible. Writing one line to keep a streak alive is a low bar, and the low bar is the point: the habit is opening the app, not producing anything good.

What counts

Writing at least one thing on a day. That is the whole rule.

It does not matter what you wrote, how long it was, or which list it landed in.

Current and longest

Both are kept. The longest is worth having because it survives a broken current streak, which takes some of the sting out of missing a day.

Going further

Days are local. A streak follows your own day boundary, not a server's, so travelling does not silently break it.

A streak can be recalculated. If it looks wrong after a long offline period or a time zone change, Settings Advanced Recalculate streak rebuilds it from your actual history rather than trusting the running count.

It can be hidden. Settings Appearance & Accessibility Show streak removes it if a number makes the app feel like a chore.

Missing a day is survivable. Streak protection exists precisely so one bad week does not erase a year. See save and freeze a streak.

Tips

  • Write one line on the bad days. The streak is not the point, but it will get you to open the app, and opening it is the point.
  • If the number is making you anxious, hide it. The habit is worth more than the counter.
