Duplicate, rename, delete
The three ordinary list operations, and one thing to know about each.
Rename
A list's name is editable at any time, and renaming updates every mention and backlink pointing at it. Nothing breaks.
Day lists are the exception. Their name is their date and cannot be changed.
Duplicate
Duplicating copies the list and everything in it: things, types, indentation, headings, notes and tags. The copy is fully independent from the moment it is made.

Delete
Press ⌘⌥⌫. The list and its things go to Trash together, and both can be restored. See trash.
Deleting a list deletes the things inside it. If you want to keep some, move them out first.
Going further
Deleting a shared list affects collaborators. They lose access. If the list matters to other people, hand it over or leave it rather than deleting it.
Sublists go with their parent. Deleting a list takes its sublists too, since they live inside it.
Consider archiving instead. For a finished list, archive keeps the record and clears the clutter. See archive.
Tips
- Rename freely. Nothing depends on a list's name staying stable.
- Before deleting anything with history, ask whether archiving would do. It almost always would.
