Ask NewTwos
Chat with NewTwos
Chat answers questions about your own things, and can act on them.
Why you'd care
Search needs the words you used. Chat does not. "What did I say about the roof" works when you cannot remember whether you wrote roof, gutter or leak, and that gap is where most retrieval actually fails.
It can also do things. "Move everything tagged groceries to a new list" is one sentence rather than twenty taps.
The 60-second version
Open Chat and ask. It reads your lists and things and answers from them.
What it is good at
- Finding by description rather than by exact wording
- Summarising a long list or a period of days
- Bulk actions: adding several things, moving, tagging, completing
- Questions across time: "what did I do most weeks in June"
- Reading a photo or a file you attach, and turning it into things
What it is not good at
- Anything requiring judgment about your life. It knows what you wrote, not what you meant.
- Deciding your priorities. It has no idea what matters.
- Tidying up broadly. "Organize my lists" produces confident nonsense. Specific instructions work, vague ones do not.
Send it a photo or a file
Tap the photo button in the composer and pick a picture. Chat reads the text in it, so a photo of a handwritten list, a whiteboard, a receipt, or a screenshot can become real things in one step. Say what you want done with it: "make this a list", "add these to today", or just "what does this say?".
On the web you can also attach a file, or drag one onto the composer, or paste a screenshot straight in. It reads .txt, .md, .csv, .json, .html, .ics, .enex and .zip, which is the same set the Import flow understands. On mobile it is photos for now.
Two things worth knowing:
The picture is not kept. Chat reads the photo and then discards it. Nothing is stored unless you tick Keep photo, which attaches the picture to the things it creates.
A long file is trimmed. Chat reads the beginning of a big file rather than all of it, and will tell you when it did. For a whole export, use Import instead, which has no such limit.
Limits
Free accounts get 20 messages a month. Plus is unlimited.
Going further
It only sees your own data. Chat reads your account and nothing else. It is not searching the web.
Pin a list to scope it. Naming or pinning a list narrows the question to that list, which improves answers substantially on a large account.
It can be turned off. Chat has its own switch, separate from the AI master switch. See Settings Smart Features NewTwos Chat.
Settings that change this
- Settings Smart Features NewTwos Chat turns chat on and off.
- Settings Smart Features AI features is the master switch for all AI.
- Settings Smart Features Use your own OpenAI key lets you bring your own key and pick a model. Plus
Tips
- Ask for a list, not an essay. "List the books I mentioned this year" beats "tell me about my reading".
- Photograph a list straight on, in good light. Chat keeps the checkboxes and the indenting, so a tidy photo becomes a tidy list.
- If an answer looks wrong, it usually is. Check the things it cites rather than trusting the summary.
