Rich players
Some links render as a usable player rather than a link you have to leave for.
Which ones
YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, Maps, and X posts.
Why you'd care
A saved song you have to open another app to hear is a song you will not hear. Playing it where it sits removes the step, and the same applies to a video you saved to watch later.
Going further
Players are a kind of link preview. They follow the same per-thing toggle, so a list of twenty songs can be collapsed to plain links with ⌘⇧L. See links and link previews.
Maps links open in your chosen app. Settings Advanced Default map app decides which one gets directions.
They need a connection. Offline, they fall back to being ordinary links, and the thing is unaffected.
Settings that change this
- Settings Lists & Things Show link previews by default decides whether new links get a preview or player.
- Settings Advanced Default map app chooses the maps app.
Tips
- A list of songs with players is a genuinely good playlist surface. A list of forty is not, so turn previews off there.
- Add a word of your own next to a media link. You will search your word, not the track title.
