Remember
Memory
Marking a thing as a memory means NewTwos brings it back to you at some point, unprompted.
Why you'd care
Most of what you write is never read again, not because it was worthless but because nothing ever surfaces it. Search requires you to go looking, which requires remembering it exists.
Memory inverts that. You mark it once, and it comes back on its own.
The 60-second version
Press ⌘⇧Y on a thing. It joins your memories and will reappear.
Going further
Random, not scheduled. This is deliberately unlike a reminder. A reminder has a time you chose and a job to do. A memory has neither, and the surprise is what makes it feel like a gift rather than a task.
Memory or memorize? Memory resurfaces at random. Memorize schedules deliberately with spaced repetition, for things you are trying to learn. If you want it in your head, use memorize. See memorize.
The default time is a setting. Settings Lists & Things Remember & review time sets when memories are delivered, so they arrive when you can actually read them.
Settings that change this
- Settings Lists & Things Remember & review time sets the default time of day for memory delivery.
Tips
- Mark quotes, advice and things people said. Those are what read best out of context.
- Do not mark to-dos. A to-do that resurfaces at random is just a badly scheduled reminder.
