Write it down

Pull to capture

Pulling down on a view takes you somewhere, and what that somewhere is can be configured.

Why you'd care

On a phone, the top of the screen is the hardest place to reach and the pull-down gesture is the easiest. Binding it to capture means the most common action costs the least effort.

The 60-second version

Pull down on a list or a day. By default this takes you to capture or back to Today, depending on where you are.

Going further

It is a destination, not a refresh. Pulling down is not fetching data, it is navigating. Sync happens continuously in the background regardless.

You can change the destination. Settings Appearance & Accessibility Quick view sets where the gesture goes.

It can be turned off entirely. If you have gestures set to none, pull-down is disabled along with swipe actions.

Tips

  • Point it at Today if you mostly navigate, and at capture if you mostly write.
  • It pairs well with a nav bar that does not contain either, freeing a tab slot.
