Slash commands

Typing / at the start of a thing opens a menu of what you can turn it into.

Why you'd care

It is the fastest route from typing to a to-do, a photo, a reminder or a divider, without moving your hands to a menu. If you write on a keyboard, this replaces most of the edit bar.

The 60-second version

Start a new thing, type /, and pick from the menu. Keep typing to filter it.

What is in the menu

The common ones: to-do, note, bullet, number, divider, photo, reminder, tag, heading. What appears depends on which features you have, so a Plus account sees more.

Going further

It only fires at the start. A slash mid-sentence is just a slash, so URLs and dates are safe to type normally.

Filtering is the point. /rem gets you to reminder faster than scrolling the menu. Learn two or three prefixes and you will rarely see the full list.

Escape backs out. The slash stays as text if you dismiss the menu, so nothing is committed until you choose.

Tips

  • / then a type is faster than changing a thing's type afterwards.
  • If you use one command constantly, check whether the edit bar or a keyboard shortcut is faster still.
