Reminders and your calendar
Overdue reminders
A missed reminder does not disappear, and it does not turn your list red either.
Why you'd care
Overdue handling is where most to-do apps become unpleasant. A wall of red is a punishment, and the usual response is to stop opening the app.
NewTwos separates two things that other apps merge: the thing moving forward, and the alert firing again.
What happens by default
The to-do carries to the next day like any other unfinished to-do. See carry-over.
The alert stays in the past. It already fired, and it does not fire again.
That is the right default for most reminders. You saw it, you did not act, and the thing is still on your list.
Rolling the alert forward too
Settings Calendar & Reminders Carry over reminders moves overdue reminders onto today along with the thing, so the alert gets another chance.
It is off by default because it changes when you get notified, which is not a decision to make on someone's behalf. Turn it on if you routinely sleep through alerts and want a second run at them.
Going further
No red, and no counting. There is no overdue badge and nothing accumulates a score. The thing being on today is the whole signal.
A repeatedly overdue reminder is telling you something. Usually that the time was wrong, or that it is not really a to-do. Cancel it rather than rescheduling it a fourth time.
Settings that change this
- Settings Calendar & Reminders Carry over reminders rolls overdue reminders onto today.
- Settings Lists & Things Carry over unfinished to-dos is the underlying to-do carry-over.
Tips
- Leave alert carry-over off unless you have a specific problem it solves. Fewer repeated notifications is usually better.
- If something is genuinely overdue and important, move it to Today by hand and give it a new time.
