Reminders and your calendar
Auto-move things for reminders
Two settings that keep a thing and its reminder in the same place.
Why you'd care
A thing on Monday with a reminder for Friday is confusing. You look at Friday and it is not there, because the thing still lives on Monday. These settings resolve that in whichever direction suits you.
The two directions
Move the thing to match its reminder. Settings Calendar & Reminders Automatically move things for reminders relocates a thing onto the day its reminder is set for. Set a reminder for Friday and the thing moves to Friday.
Move the reminder to match the thing. Settings Calendar & Reminders Automatically move reminders when moving things updates the reminder when you move the thing to another day. Drag it to Thursday and its reminder follows.
Which to use
They are not opposites and both can be on.
If you plan by time, turn on the first. Setting a date is your way of saying where something belongs.
If you plan by day, turn on the second. Moving a thing to a day is your way of saying when it should happen.
If you use days as a record rather than a plan, leave both off so nothing moves without you.
Settings that change this
- Settings Calendar & Reminders Automatically move things for reminders moves the thing to its reminder's day.
- Settings Calendar & Reminders Automatically move reminders when moving things updates the reminder when the thing moves.
Tips
- Turn on the second one if you drag things around the week bar a lot. It stops reminders being left behind.
- If things seem to move on their own, one of these is the reason.
